Jacksonville, Fla. – October 30, 2014 – Mike and Marguerite Mumford, owners of Paul Davis Restoration of North Florida have formally completed the donation of extensive home repairs for a Jacksonville resident and homeowner. Mr. James Aldridge now has a safe and comfortable home, plus he is eligible for much needed homeowners insurance protection.
Initially, in 2011, Aldridge hired a now defunct general contractor to proceed with home repairs and to fix a damaged roof and many other improvements. The contractor was given close to $30,000 to complete the project. Shortly thereafter, the contractor did not return to the job located at 9550 Carbondale Drive East in northwest Jacksonville and the house was left with a faulty and leaking roof, torn out kitchen, unusable bathroom, and a hazardous carport, among others. The property was not safe for Aldridge and he had to move in with a family friend for more than a year while looking for a solution to the problem. During this time, Aldridge reported the unscrupulous contractor to the police and the perpetrator was arrested. However, the stolen money was never recovered.
Ultimately, Aldridge found help from the local Paul Davis franchise and the company’s Restoring America program which provides restoration and repairs to many deserving individuals and families in northeast Florida. In August, Paul Davis began the work with a variety of services including demolition of the carport, replacement of rotten wood and stabilization of the structure, removal and replacing the roof and ridge vent, installation of a new kitchen sink, microwave oven and cabinets, countertops and backsplash, and rewiring kitchen electrical and circuits for appliances. Plus, the company installed a bathroom sink and commode, and drains and p-traps to prevent clogs. Paul Davis also re-decked the utility room roof and replaced the flat roof, installed ceiling joists and beams, rewired the utility room for interior lighting and an outside water pump, installed outdoor security flood lights, replaced soffit around the house, rewired a post light and installed a light-switch, plus painted many areas inside and outside of the home, among others.
During this time, Paul Davis employees volunteered and worked with trade partners including Stonebridge Construction, a local firm which donated labor and materials to complete the roof. Other local companies donating time, materials and expertise included Gama Contractors LLC, Electric Plus, Inc., Mike Brown Plumbing, Barnett, ABC Supply, and Let’s Face It, Inc.
Aldridge wrote a thank you note to the Paul Davis and volunteer team which summed up his gratitude for the completed work. “I do want to thank each and everyone that had a hand in all you have done in getting my home back into living condition and it is looking great,” wrote Aldridge. “I’m so thankful and appreciative for everything that has been done for me. I’ll never forget that sometimes there are good people in this world. Thanks again,” he commented.
According to Nate Moore, Paul Davis’ Project Manager, the company’s mission focuses on partnering with others to strengthen the community. “Each year, Paul Davis works to identify a restoration project to help a well-deserving candidate in Duval County,” he said. “We are so pleased to be able to help Mr. Aldridge. He was a perfect candidate and also a very nice man.”
